What is the Jack Emery Drive?

Writer: Robert JungRobert Jung

Who is Jack Emery?

Jack Emery was born and raised in Nebraska and came from extreme poverty. When he moved to the San Jose area, he not only made a living for himself, but he served those that were less fortunate in his community. Jack knew what being less fortunate was like, so he wanted to make a difference.

Jack Emery expanded his acts of kindness significantly, and asked the local Lion’s Club for help. After he passed away in 1952, the Lion’s Club continued Jack Emery’s campaign of buying food for families for the holidays. Before long, the food drive grew too large for the Lion’s Club, so local community schools were asked for their help. This marked the beginning of the Jack Emery Drive.

One man’s act of kindness started a tradition that we carry on to this day.

What is the Jack Emery Drive?

This drive has been run by MHS over 15 years

The drive is organized and run by the Associated Student Body (ASB) of Milpitas High School. It is typically run late November through early part of December. While the drive has been primarily run with Milpitas Unified School District, we would like to see more of the community be involved in it to support our students and our neighbors.. This year to involve the community, we are offering free pickup within the Milpitas Community.
